Mouth Guard Cost in Singapore
A transparent breakdown of night guard and mouth guard pricing across Singapore private dental clinics — what drives cost, how to compare options, and what to expect at Dentalis.
Custom night guards in Singapore range from S$300 for a basic soft guard to S$1,000+ for premium milled or dual-laminate appliances, before GST. OTC boil-and-bite guards from pharmacies cost S$10–S$30 but are not calibrated to individual bite anatomy. At Dentalis, custom night guards start from S$450 before GST. Night guards are not MediSave or CHAS claimable as standalone treatments; some corporate and private insurance plans offer partial coverage.
Night Guard and Mouth Guard Prices in Singapore
Custom night guard fees vary across Singapore private dental clinics depending on material, fabrication method, and what is included in the quoted price. Consultation and digital scanning are often charged separately — a quoted guard fee alone may not represent the full cost of obtaining a fitted appliance.
The table below reflects published and verified pricing across Singapore private dental clinics as of 2026. All figures are before GST unless stated. Use this as a reference range; confirm current fees directly with any clinic before your appointment.
| Guard Type | Singapore Range (Before GST) | Typical Lifespan | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| OTC / Boil-and-Bite | S$10–S$30 | Weeks to months | Pharmacy or online. Not bite-calibrated. High discontinuation rate. |
| Soft custom guard | S$300–S$450 | 1–2 years | Entry-level custom. EVA or soft acrylic. Suited to mild bruxism. |
| Hard acrylic guard | S$400–S$700 | 3–5 years | Clinical standard for moderate to heavy grinders. Precise occlusal design. |
| Dual-laminate guard | S$450–S$800 | 2–4 years | Soft inner layer, hard outer shell. Balance of comfort and durability. |
| Milled / 3D-printed premium | S$600–S$1,000+ | 3–5+ years | Digital workflow, higher precision. Some clinics offer same-visit fabrication. |
| Sports mouthguard | S$129–S$450+ | 1–3 years | Impact-protection design, not interchangeable with a night guard. By enquiry at Dentalis. |
On comparing quotes: Always confirm whether the quoted price includes digital scanning, fitting, and follow-up adjustment. A lower headline price that excludes consultation and scan may cost more in total than a higher all-in price. Ask the clinic for an itemised breakdown before booking.
What Drives the Cost Difference?
The spread from S$300 to S$1,000+ is not arbitrary. Four factors account for most of the variation across Singapore private dental clinics.
Guard Material and Construction
The single largest cost variable. Soft EVA guards use less expensive thermoplastic. Hard acrylic is more costly to fabricate but more durable. Dual-laminate guards require two-stage fabrication — a soft inner liner bonded to a rigid outer shell. Milled or 3D-printed acrylic adds precision tooling or printing costs. Each step up in material adds durability and lifespan, reducing the cost per year of use.
Digital vs Traditional Workflow
Traditional fabrication uses physical impressions — plaster casts sent to an external laboratory. Digital workflows use intraoral scanning — the scan file is transmitted directly to a milling centre or 3D printer. Digital workflows produce higher accuracy and faster turnaround and tend to carry a higher fee. Some clinics pass the scan cost on separately; others bundle it.
Consultation, Scan, and Follow-Up
Some clinics quote the guard fee alone. Others quote a combined fee that includes consultation, scanning, and fitting adjustments. The total cost of obtaining a clinically appropriate guard at a clinic that separates fees can be higher than one that quotes all-in. Ask for an itemised breakdown — fitting and follow-up are not optional steps.
Grinding Severity and Bite Complexity
A patient with severe bruxism and multiple existing restorations — crowns, veneers, bridges — requires more complex design work than one with an intact dentition and mild grinding. The guard must account for every restoration in its occlusal design. Cases requiring laboratory-adjusted articulation add to fabrication cost.
Upper vs Lower Arch Placement
Some clinics charge differently depending on whether the guard is fabricated for the upper or lower arch. The arch placement is determined clinically — based on bite pattern and wear distribution — not patient preference. Where a price difference exists between arches, ask which is recommended for your specific presentation before assuming cost.
Replacement Frequency
A soft guard worn by a heavy grinder may need replacement every 12–18 months. A hard acrylic guard from the same patient can last 3–5 years. The annualised cost of a S$700 hard guard replaced every 4 years (S$175/year) is typically lower than a S$350 soft guard replaced every 18 months (S$233/year). Material choice affects both immediate and long-term cost.
Custom vs Over-the-Counter — Is the Price Difference Worth It?
A pharmacy boil-and-bite guard costs S$10–S$30. A custom dental guard costs S$300–S$1,000+. The question most patients ask — and that most clinics avoid answering plainly — is whether the difference is justified.
The honest answer depends on the severity of your grinding and what you are trying to protect.
Hard Acrylic or Dual-Laminate
Made from digital scans of your exact dentition. Sits flush against every tooth surface, distributes force evenly across the arch, and does not shift during sleep. Accounts for existing crowns, veneers, and bite relationships. Comfortable enough to wear consistently. Durable enough to protect meaningfully. A guard worn consistently is the only guard that works.
The Case for a Custom Guard
If you have confirmed bruxism causing enamel wear, or existing restorations — crowns, veneers, implant crowns — that grinding forces could fracture: the cost of a custom guard is small relative to the cost of one failed restoration. A single crown costs S$1,500–S$2,000. A root canal and crown costs S$2,000–S$3,000+. A dental implant costs from S$4,500. A guard costing S$450–S$700 protects against all of these.
Boil-and-Bite / Stock Guard
Designed for general anatomy, not individual bite. Bulky, prone to shifting during sleep, and — because it sits away from the tooth surface in places — unable to distribute force evenly. Most patients who try an OTC guard discontinue use within weeks. A guard worn infrequently or not at all provides no protection regardless of material.
Temporary or Trial Use
An OTC guard may be reasonable as a temporary measure while waiting for a dental appointment, or as a short-term trial to confirm that you can tolerate wearing something overnight before committing to a custom appliance. It is not a long-term substitute for a fitted guard in any patient with confirmed or suspected moderate-to-severe bruxism.

“Patients often ask whether the cost of a custom guard is worth it. My answer is always the same: compare it to the cost of one crown. A guard is cheaper, and it protects every tooth — not just one. The question is not whether you can afford a guard. It is whether you can afford not to have one.”

Is a Night Guard Covered by MediSave or Insurance?
Night guards and custom mouth guards for bruxism are not claimable under MediSave. MediSave applies only to approved dental surgical procedures listed in the MOH Table of Surgical Procedures (TOSP). A preventive protective appliance is not a surgical procedure and is explicitly excluded.
Some clinics indicate that MediSave or CHAS may apply to night guards — this is factually incorrect. Do not factor MediSave into your budgeting for a custom guard.
CHAS dental subsidies apply to specific restorative and preventive treatments at registered clinics. Custom mouth guard fabrication is not a subsidised treatment under current CHAS dental schedules.
CHAS may subsidise the consultation and examination at CHAS-enrolled clinics. Dentalis is CHAS-enrolled — the S$80 consultation fee may be partially offset for eligible cardholders. Ask at your appointment.
Corporate and private insurance: Some corporate dental benefit plans and private insurance policies provide partial coverage for custom night guards — particularly where a clinical letter of medical necessity is provided. Coverage is plan-specific. Dentalis can provide a clinical receipt and itemised documentation for insurance submission. We recommend checking your specific plan before your appointment.
Sports Mouthguard vs Night Guard — Not the Same Thing
A sports mouthguard and a night guard are fundamentally different appliances. Patients sometimes ask whether one can substitute for the other — it cannot.
A night guard is designed to protect tooth surfaces from the sustained, repetitive force of grinding during sleep. It is made from harder materials — typically rigid acrylic — calibrated to the bite and designed for consistent nightly wear. Thin enough to sleep in. Precise enough to distribute occlusal load evenly.
A sports mouthguard is designed for sudden impact protection during physical activity. It is made from softer, shock-absorbing material — typically EVA — thicker in construction, and covers the gum margins as well as the teeth. It is not calibrated to grinding patterns and wearing one overnight would not provide meaningful bruxism protection.
| Night Guard | Sports Mouthguard | |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | Protect teeth from grinding forces during sleep | Protect teeth, lips, and jaw from impact during sport |
| Material | Hard acrylic or dual-laminate | Soft EVA or multi-layer shock-absorbing material |
| Thickness | Thin — designed for overnight comfort | Thicker — covers gum margins, absorbs impact |
| Wear timing | During sleep | During physical activity only |
| Interchangeable? | No — different design, different purpose, cannot substitute for each other | |

Mouth Guard Cost — FAQs
Custom night guards range from approximately S$300 for a basic soft guard to S$1,000+ for premium milled or dual-laminate appliances, before GST. The Singapore market range reflects differences in material, fabrication method, and what is included in the quoted fee. At Dentalis, custom night guards start from S$450 before GST. Consultation is S$80 and is charged separately.
Cost variation across Singapore private clinics reflects differences in guard material (soft vs hard vs milled), fabrication workflow (traditional plaster impression vs digital scan), what is included in the quoted fee (consultation and scan are often charged separately), and the complexity of individual cases. A lower headline price does not always mean a lower total cost — confirm what is included before booking.
An OTC guard may be reasonable as a short-term trial while awaiting a dental appointment. It is not a substitute for a custom guard in any patient with confirmed or moderate-to-severe bruxism. Most patients discontinue OTC guard use within weeks due to discomfort or poor fit. A guard not worn provides no protection. If you have existing restorations — crowns, veneers, implant crowns — an OTC guard should not be considered adequate protection.
No. Night guards and mouth guards for bruxism are not claimable under MediSave. MediSave applies only to approved surgical dental procedures listed in the MOH Table of Surgical Procedures. Preventive appliances are explicitly excluded. Some clinics indicate otherwise — this is factually incorrect.
Some corporate dental benefit plans and private insurance policies provide partial coverage for custom night guards, particularly where a clinical letter of medical necessity is provided. Coverage is plan-specific and varies significantly between insurers. Dentalis can provide a clinical receipt and itemised documentation for insurance submission. Check your specific plan entitlements before your appointment.
Lifespan depends on material and grinding severity. A soft custom guard typically lasts 1–2 years for a moderate grinder and can wear through more quickly under heavy use. A hard acrylic guard typically lasts 3–5 years. A dual-laminate guard typically lasts 2–4 years. The annualised cost of a more durable guard is often lower than a cheaper guard replaced more frequently.
A consultation costs S$80. The custom night guard itself starts from S$450 before prevailing GST. No other fees apply for a standard single-arch night guard case. Digital scanning is included in the guard fabrication process — not charged separately. A written fee estimate is provided at the consultation before anything is booked.
Sports mouthguards and night guards are different appliances with different construction and different pricing. Across Singapore private clinics, sports mouthguards typically range from S$129 for a custom single-layer guard to S$450+ for multi-layer premium designs. Pricing at Dentalis is available by enquiry. A sports mouthguard cannot substitute for a night guard, and vice versa.
