Medisave for Dental · Singapore · The Simple, Honest Explanation
Medisave for Dental
Medisave for dental in Singapore can only be used for specific, medically necessary dental procedures — most commonly surgical treatments. Not for routine, preventive, or cosmetic care.
The Simple, Honest Explanation
Can Medisave Be Used for Dental?
Yes — but only under specific conditions. Medisave is designed to help patients offset the cost of medical and surgical care, including certain dental procedures that are considered medically necessary surgeries. It does not function like general dental insurance and does not apply to everyday dental maintenance.
The One Rule That Determines Eligibility
The single rule that determines Medisave eligibility for dental treatment is:
Is the procedure surgical and medically indicated under MOH guidelines?
This explains why surgical wisdom tooth removal may be claimable while a simple extraction is not — and why two patients undergoing the “same” procedure may have different claimable amounts.
TL;DR — What You Need to Know
- Medisave is not for routine care (scaling, fillings, whitening)
- Medisave is typically used for medically necessary dental surgery
- Eligibility depends on procedure type and surgical complexity
- Claim limits vary based on CPF / MOH surgical guidelines
- Surgical wisdom tooth extraction is the most common claimable procedure
- Different clinics may quote different amounts due to case complexity
- A proper assessment is required to confirm eligibility
Is Dentalis Medisave-accredited? Yes. Dentalis is a Medisave-accredited dental clinic in Singapore’s CBD, near Tanjong Pagar, Maxwell, and Outram Park MRT.
“Medisave helps our patients plan for surgical dental procedures, preventing future issues from arising, hence preserving long term oral health.”

Claimable vs Not Claimable
Which Dental Procedures Are Medisave-Claimable?
✓ Commonly Claimable
- Surgical wisdom tooth extraction — impacted teeth, bone removal
- Dental implant surgery — surgical placement of implant fixture
- Bone grafting — when medically required
- Sinus lift procedures — when medically indicated
- Oral surgery — cyst removal, biopsy
- Surgical root canal procedures — e.g. apicoectomy
- Gum surgery — gingivectomy, crown lengthening
- Surgical removal of retained roots / embedded teeth
- Incision & drainage for abscesses
- Orthognathic (jaw) surgery
Claim limits are capped under MOH’s Table of Surgical Procedures and depend on surgical complexity.

The Claim Process
How Medisave Claims Work at Dentalis
Clinical Consultation & Assessment
We determine surgical necessity and complexity.
Estimated Claimable Amount Explained
We provide a transparent breakdown of what can be claimed and your estimated out-of-pocket cost before any treatment begins.
Authorisation via MCAF
You sign the Medical Claims Authorisation Form (MCAF) and check your Medisave balance via Singpass or CPF.
Clinic Submits Claim
Dentalis submits your claim directly to CPF. You pay only the remaining balance. Patients do not submit claims themselves at an accredited clinic.
Some wisdom teeth cause silent damage before a single symptom appears. Early assessment prevents a larger and more costly problem later.
Family Medisave
Can I Use a Family Member’s Medisave?
Yes. You may use the Medisave of an immediate family member, subject to sufficient balance, proper authorisation via CPF, and the procedure being Medisave-eligible.
Spouse
Parents
Grandparents
Children
Siblings
Why Do Different Clinics Give Different Answers?
This is one of the most common patient frustrations. Different clinics may give different answers because surgical complexity varies, CPF surgical codes differ based on diagnosis and difficulty, and some clinics provide estimates before proper assessment. What matters is not the clinic’s pricing structure, but whether surgery is required, how complex the surgery is, and which MOH surgical code applies.
A proper clinical assessment is essential before confirming Medisave eligibility — not guesswork or assumptions.

Frequently Asked Questions
Medisave for Dental — Common Questions
Clear, honest answers about Medisave dental eligibility in Singapore.
Standard (non-surgical) root canal treatment is not covered by standard MediSave. Only surgical root canal procedures — such as an apicoectomy — may qualify. However, from 1 June 2026, patients aged 60 and above can use Flexi-MediSave for up to S$400/year toward root canal treatment at CHAS dental clinics and public institutions. This is separate from the standard MediSave surgical claim.
No. Orthodontic treatments are considered elective and non-surgical. Invisalign is not Medisave claimable.
It depends on the type of extraction. Medisave covers surgical extractions — such as a complex or impacted tooth that requires an incision. A simple, non-surgical tooth extraction is not eligible.
Withdrawal limits for wisdom tooth surgery depend on the TOSP code assigned based on surgical complexity. Current limits (effective 4 January 2025, CPF Board) are approximately S$1,120 for a complex surgical extraction (TOSP 2C) or S$1,390 for a more difficult case (TOSP 3A), plus a separate consumables allowance of up to S$300 per session. Multiple teeth in one session attract proportionally higher limits. Different patients may be assigned different codes based on clinical assessment, which is why quotes can vary. See our wisdom tooth surgery guide for a full TOSP breakdown.
You can pay the difference out-of-pocket or use a family member’s Medisave (spouse, parents, grandparents, children, or siblings), subject to sufficient balance and proper authorisation via CPF.
Yes — the surgical placement of the implant fixture is claimable under TOSP code SB816M (effective 4 January 2025, CPF Board): S$1,120 per implant placed, plus S$830 surgical consumables per session (fixed regardless of how many implants are placed in that session). For one implant, the total MediSave claim is S$1,950. The crown, abutment, consultation, and CBCT scan are not claimable under standard MediSave. Bone grafting is separately claimable (TOSP SB803M) when medically required. A clinical assessment is required to confirm exact entitlements. See the dental implant cost guide for full MediSave scenarios.
Yes. A proper consultation at Dentalis is required to assess eligibility accurately. We will explain what is claimable, what is not, and your estimated out-of-pocket cost — before any treatment begins.
Because surgical complexity and diagnosis differ between patients, even for similar-sounding treatments.
No. Only surgical wisdom tooth extraction may be claimable, and even then, only up to MOH-set limits. You are typically responsible for the balance above the claimable amount. See our full guide on wisdom tooth removal in Singapore.
Flexi-MediSave is a CPF scheme available to Singapore Citizens and PRs aged 60 and above. From 1 June 2026, eligible seniors can use up to S$400 per year from their MediSave toward permanent dental crowns and root canal treatment at accredited CHAS dental clinics and public healthcare institutions. This S$400 annual limit is separate from standard MediSave. Flexi-MediSave is applied directly at Dentalis — no separate reimbursement process is required. Source: MOH Singapore, June 2026.
Yes — this is one of Flexi-MediSave’s two dental applications. From 1 June 2026, patients aged 60 and above can use up to S$400/year toward standard (non-surgical) root canal treatment at accredited CHAS dental clinics and public institutions. This is particularly relevant because standard root canal treatment is not covered under regular MediSave (which applies only to surgical procedures). Flexi-MediSave bridges this gap for eligible seniors. To confirm eligibility and book a consultation at Dentalis, WhatsApp 6591923138.
Yes, for eligible patients. The three schemes cover different components and can be stacked. Standard MediSave (TOSP SB816M) covers the surgical placement of a dental implant fixture: up to S$1,120 per implant + S$830 consumables per session. CHAS covers consultation, X-ray, and the permanent crown at enrolled clinics: up to S$625 for Pioneer Generation cardholders per crown. Flexi-MediSave covers the permanent crown separately: up to S$400/year for patients aged 60+. A patient aged 65 with a Pioneer Generation CHAS card having a single Camlog implant at Dentalis (total S$4,730 before GST) could potentially reduce their cash payment to approximately S$2,103.50 before GST after all three schemes are applied. Confirm your individual entitlements at consultation.
