Can I use Medisave for Dental Treatments?

Navigating healthcare expenses can often be a complex task, especially when it comes to dental procedures. For many in Singapore, the question arises: "Can I use Medisave for dental treatments?" The answer is yes, but with certain conditions and limitations. This article will guide you through the process of using Medisave for dental procedures, ensuring you make the most of this healthcare savings scheme.

Medisave is a national medical savings scheme in Singapore, designed to help Singapore Citizens set aside part of their income for future personal or immediate family healthcare needs. It plays a crucial role in covering various medical expenses, including certain dental treatments.

Which Dental Surgeries can I claim with Medisave?

While Medisave is not applicable for all dental treatments, it can be used for dental surgeries that involve the jawbone or gums. This includes procedures such as:

  • Wisdom Tooth Surgery: Removal of impacted wisdom teeth often qualifies for Medisave claims.

  • Dental Implants: If the procedure involves surgery, Medisave can be used to offset costs.

  • Other Surgical Procedures: This might include gum surgery or other operations performed by a dental surgeon.

However, routine dental treatments like scaling & polishing, fillings extractions, root canal and cosmetic dental procedures are not eligible for Medisave claims. It's essential to consult with us to confirm the eligibility of the procedure.

How to Use Medisave for Dental Surgery?

Claiming from Medisave for a dental procedure is a straightforward process. Just follow these steps:

  1. Consultation: Book an appointment with a Medisave-accredited dental clinic. They will assess your condition and determine if your procedure is eligible for a claim.

  2. Estimate: The clinic will provide an estimate of the costs and let you know how much can be claimed from your Medisave account.

  3. Consent: You will need to sign a consent form, allowing the clinic to submit the claim on your behalf.

  4. Claim Submission: The clinic will then submit the claim directly to the CPF Board.

  5. Payment: Once approved, the funds will be transferred from your Medisave account to the clinic, covering part of your surgical fees.

What happens if my Medisave doesn't cover the full cost?

If your Medisave balance isn't enough to cover the entire cost of a Medisave-eligible procedure, you have a few options:

  • Pay the difference out-of-pocket: You can use Medisave to cover the portion you can and then pay the rest using cash or other payment methods.

  • Use a family member's Medisave: You may be able to use your spouse's, parents', or another eligible family member's Medisave account to help cover the remaining cost, provided they give their consent.

  • Yes, you can use the Medisave account of an immediate family member (spouse, parents, siblings, or children) if you don't have enough funds in your own account. They must provide their consent, and the use is subject to standard Medisave withdrawal limits.

Can I use Medisave for Invisalign braces?

No, Medisave does not cover braces or other orthodontic treatments like Invisalign. These are considered non-surgical and cosmetic. However, if your orthodontic treatment is part of a larger medical procedure, such as jaw surgery for a deformity, Medisave might cover the surgical part of the treatment, but not the braces themselves.

Can I use Medisave for Dental Crowns?

No, dental crowns are not covered by Medisave. A dental crown is considered a non-surgical, routine procedure, which falls outside the scope of what Medisave can be used for.

Can I use Medisave for Tooth Extraction?
